The BSI Flex 3030 – Net Zero Transition Plans – Code of Practice is a crucial tool designed to help SMEs and other stakeholders transition to net zero. This standard provides practical advice and benchmarks, making it easier for organizations to develop, implement, and maintain effective net zero transition plans. It’s particularly important because it bridges the gap between individual actions and the comprehensive strategies typically adopted by larger corporations.

What the standard sets out to achieve

The aim of BSI Flex 3030 is to create a set of recommendations aimed at SMEs but applicable to anyone in the supply chain who wants to or needs to begin transitioning to net zero. This BSI Flex will be a Code of Practice which will provide advice and will be written to incorporate a degree of flexibility in application, while offering reliable indicative benchmarks.

Where we are so far

As you may be aware that Version 1.0 of the BSI Flex 3030 has been published and is available for free download. Over the past few months, it was open for public consultation, which we extended to gather as much feedback as possible.

Public consultation overview

During the public consultation, we received a total of 100 comments. Of these, 21 were general comments not linked to a specific section, while the remaining 79 were related to specific sections or clauses. Clause 5 – Guidance attracted the most attention with 44 comments. We received valuable insights from both organizations and individuals.

What's next? Development of version 2.0

We are now beginning the development of Version 2.0. The project initiation meeting took place on June 21, 2024, to confirm the scope and identify key areas for further development. Here’s a brief overview of the provisional timeline for Version 2.0:

  • Project Initiation: June 2024
  • Preparation of draft for AG Review: July 2024
  • AG Consultation starts: August 2024
  • Expected Publication: November 2024

Next steps
